Under the leadership of the All-China Women’s Federation, the China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation launched the Spring Bud Project in 1989 to improve education for girls from impoverished families.
For decades, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with care from the CPC and the government, and with active participation and generous support from all sectors of society, the Spring Bud Project has organized various activities focusing on girls’ education, safety and health. It has helped a great number of girls achieve their aspiration for education, realize their dreams and excel in life.
In September 2019, Peng Liyuan, Special Envoy for the Spring Bud Project to Promote Girls’ Education, announced the launch of the Dream of the Future Action of the Spring Bud Project, an upgraded version of the Spring Bud Project.
The Action follows the mission of promoting moral integrity and cultivating talents and adheres to the original aspiration of serving girls. It covers various programs including girls’ education, safety and health, hands-on and inquiry-based learning (HIBL) for girls, and accompanying girls for their all-round development.
Through integrated support of financial aid, guidance, inspiration and companionship for girls, the Action ushers the Spring Bud Project on a new journey in the new era.
On October 11, 2021, the 10th International Day of the Girl Child, Peng called for increased efforts to promote the Action, to help more girls receive good education, pursue their dreams and embrace bright futures.
On September 28, 2023, Spring Bud Project won the 2023 UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education.
The targeted groups of the Spring Bud Project include preschool girls, girls in primary and middle schools, and college and university girl students.
