Camp Trains Spring Bud Girls in Sci-Tech Innovation Capabilities

The China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF), Tencent Foundation and TCAMP (a public-welfare project under Tencent Academy) organized the Spring Bud InnoGirls and Tencent Mini-E Innovation Camp in Shenzhen, a city of south China's Guangdong Province, from July 15 to 20.

Themed "Spring Bud Inspires Dream and Wisdom Builds Tomorrow," the camp drew the attendance of 30 Spring Bud girls from various regions in China. The girls took part in the design of sci-tech products with WorkBuddy, a full-scenario artificial intelligence (AI) agent designed by Chinese tech giant Tencent.

The camp featured a number of AI-related innovative practice courses. They were intended to help attendees follow urban development from sci-tech perspectives in such real-life scenarios as the building of smart cities, cultural communication and the installation of barrier-free public facilities and respond to modern social and economic topics with AI-driven mindsets.

The camp's opening ceremony was held on July 16 during which Spring Bud girls quickly became familiar with each other by working in groups and embraced AI-driven innovative world.

The camp provided courses in various topics, including product design, business strategies and instructions in the use of AI tools. The courses empowered the Spring Bud girls, especially in terms of realizing their creative ideas.

During a 48-hour practice session on July 17 and 18, the girls, in five groups under the guidance of mentors, conducted product research and development, which involved product logic sorting, computer code writing and business model canvas production. The girls acquired practical AI and digital skills.

"I was surprised to find that a mini-program will come into being when the AI tools receive instructions. I once wanted to give up because of the tremendous large number of codes. I became fully accomplished when I completed my work," said Meng Meng (pseudonym), a Spring Bud girl from southwest China's Sichuan.

"I have persisted in learning AI knowledge via relevant short videos. The study tour in Shenzhen is beneficial as I have got many knowledge in the process," said Nuo Nuo (pseudonym), another Spring Bud girl from east China's Shandong.

"It is beyond my expectations that those Spring Bud girls have acquired solid AI knowledge and that some people of them have been working on doing experiments with AI agents," said Jing Shen, a college student volunteer.

Yu Qiao, a doctoral student volunteer, introduced that the Spring Bud girls showed optimism and enthusiasm towards sci-tech learning.

The study tour came into the final sprint on July 19. Tencent volunteers paired up with the Spring Bud girls and assisted them in the completion of relevant rehearsals.

"We assumed that those rural girls might be introverted. However, We later realized that they are mature and enthusiastic. They have also shown strong leadership and logical mindset," said Qian Ran, a Tencent volunteer.

According to other Tencent volunteers, those Spring Bud girls have displayed both firm enthusiasm and high artistic talents in logo design.

During the postcard-exchange session, Tencent volunteers and the Spring Bud girls wrote to each other their best wishes and sincere thanks. "Those Spring Bud girls have made big progress, including developing the ability to build promotional websites for their hometowns. I hope that they will march ahead with this courage and competence," said Tencent volunteer Wei Miao.

An exhibition of the girls' innovative works was held during the closing ceremony. The works covered areas including cultural tourism, souvenir design, cross-cultural communications and barrier-free travel. The works showed the girls' solid programming capabilities, and their keen social insights.

Five groups earned separate awards and honorary titles for their creative ideas and firm competence.

The camp planted the seeds of science and technology in the hearts of the Spring Bud girls and enabled them to delivered fruitful results with code writing.

In the years ahead, the CCTF and Tencent Foundation will press ahead with the implementation of the Spring Bud InnoGirls Program, safeguard the sci-tech dreams of girls nationwide and help them shine personal talent in the AI era.

The Spring Bud InnoGirls Project was launched by CCTF and Tencent Foundation in 2021. The project organizes sci-tech, camp-based training events in AI-generated content, and other

frontier technologies, for Spring Bud girls in secondary schools. It has also fostered a three-tier-training system, which involves inclusive AI courses, Python advanced courses and national-level, sci-tech-competition-targeted courses. To date, the project has benefited more than 10,000 rural girls in Sichuan, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Guizhou and 10 other provincial regions.

In 2025, over 20 Spring Bud girls won prizes and titles in national-level competitions recognized by the Ministry of Education. The public welfare project was also written into a white paper titled China's Achievements in Women's Well-Rounded Development in the New Era, released by China's State Council Information Office in September 2025.
