The China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) and KFC China jointly launched the KFC Little Migratory Bird Fund in 2016 to support the healthy growth of rural left-behind children, migrant children and children living in difficulties.

With the assistance of the fund, more than 20 migrant parents went back home from their workplace ahead of the Spring Festival, and united with their children. Meanwhile, migrant families in 23 cities were invited to visit local KFC outlets, get immersed in folk culture and interactive activities, and enjoy joyful moments imbued with laughter and festive atmosphere.

For rural children whose parents work away from home, the long-awaited family reunion is the most precious and beautiful gift during the Spring Festival.

Companionship is the most affectionate confession. Zhou Jie works in a parcel sorting center of Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. She initially planned to stay put in the workplace and earn more money during the Spring Festival holiday.

It is the support of the KFC Little Migratory Bird Fund that has changed her mind. Two children rushed to her at the entrance of their village when they saw her. She embraced them tightly when they approached her.

A migrant worker surnamed Xia and his wife have worked in Changsha of Central China's Hunan Province for five years. They have always been concerned about their two children in their hometown in East China's Anhui Province.

Under the support of the fund, the migrant couple went back home earlier than previous years. It was a big surprise for their children to find that their father dressed up like the KFC's mascot Chicky and their mother brought a KFC family bucket meal. The children leaped into their parents' warm arms like birds returning to their nest. Wearing red scarves, they sat around their dining table to enjoy the KFC family bucket meal and cherish the moment of reunion.

The interactive activities held in KFC outlets in over 20 cities nationwide blended folk traditions with festive greetings, and further strengthened the parent-child ties.

The KFC restaurants have become festive and warm venues where children can gain a deep understanding of the fine traditional Chinese culture and harvest companionship as well as warmth.

During the gathering in a Taiyuan-based KFC outlet, Wu Baisuo, a representative inheritor of Jiangzhou-style New Year Woodblock Printing handicraft, a State-level intangible cultural heritage, was invited to lead children to print nianhua (new year picture). Children incorporated best wishes for the New Year into their paper-cutting works in the shape of horses and took part in various kinds of parent-child games.

The Spring Festival reunion party in a Changsha-based KFC restaurant featured inscription rubbing, window paper-cutting, and other folk tradition activities for migrant families. Yan Qing, expert of calligraphy education, displayed four different forms of oracle bone script for Chinese character "horse" and guided children in making rubbings, leaving a deep impression on them.

Children in North China's Tianjin Municipality appreciated such intangible cultural heritages as sugar painting, dough figurine, Yangliuqing New Year woodblock printing and silk flower handicrafts in a KFC outlet there. The gathering helped them grasp a deep understanding of traditional arts and traditional Chinese culture.

During the past decade, the KFC Little Migratory Bird Fund has committed itself to caring for left-behind children and migrant children through reading, arts, sports and other activities. In 2024, the fund included children living in difficulties into the scope of its support and adopted the integrated approaches of financial aids and psychological companionship to better meet their diversified development needs.

By the end of 2025, the KFC Little Migratory Bird Fund had donated over 1.25 million volumes of books, benefiting nearly 6.5 million children nationwide. Through practical and sincere public welfare actions, it has consistently fulfilled its commitment to providing companionship and delightful experiences to children.
