The China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) has implemented the 2025 Summer Holiday Caring Services for Children Campaign under the theme of "Protecting Childhood and Growing Together" since the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and 15 other central authorities jointly released a notice on offering children love and caring in the summer vacation.
With the collective efforts of universities, women's federations and social organizations nationwide, the campaign draws the attendance of 2,500 college students. They provided left-behind children and children living in difficulties with multiple activities and accompany them to enjoy a happy, fulfilling and safe summer holiday after they returned to their hometowns or went to social practice places.
During their visit to Daowu Primary School in Shunping County of Baoding City in North China's Hebei Province, a volunteer team of college students from North China Electric Power University (Baoding) lectured kids there about fire prevention and control knowledge and tips. Under their demonstration and guidance, children took turns to practice the utilization of fire extinguishers. The children understood of the importance of clearly reporting specific address when making a fire call and the significance of properly using fire prevention and control equipment.
College students used cases, photos and videos to talk with children about the dangers and preventive methods of drowning in Qingyang County of East China's Anhui Province. The children listened carefully and actively responded to questions, further reinforcing their understanding of the importance of anti-drowning. In a lecture titled "I Don't Do Dangerous Things," volunteers listed common dangers in the daily life such as fire playing and touching electric sockets, instructing teenagers about how to identify dangers and protect themselves. The children talked about dangerous behaviors and the ways to cope with dangers, further bolstering self-protection awareness.
College students brought with them lacquer fans to organize experience activities of intangible cultural heritage for children in Anqing City of Anhui.
"Please dip the fan into the basin carefully. If you want a darker shade of a certain color, just leave it there for a longer time," said a college student to children, who stood in a line waiting to make lacquer fans. They felt the charm of colors and enhanced aesthetics and creativity in the midst laughter, adding a bright brush to their summer holiday.
The kite painting activities met warm response from children in Yuexi County of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, Yixian and Weixian counties of Hebei.
Volunteers distributed blank kites with cartoon templates and various pigments to children, who made full use of their creative and imaginative ideas in painting their kites. After the coloring, children showed to each other their kites, exchanged ideas behind their work, and conveyed mutual recognition as well as admiration.
In Mawang Town No. 2 Primary School in Youyang County in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, volunteers from East China Normal University held a fun experimental class of physics. After listening to the introductions of the history and fundamental principles of paddle wheel ship, the children engaged in the assembly of model boats and became excited when their models came into operation.
The experimental classes of satellites and holographic projection drew the attention of students in an elementary school of Shunping County in Hebei. Volunteers guided children to do hand-on activities, and encouraged them to engage in observations and ask questions. "Volunteers have turned complicated physics principles into simple and easily understood games. The experimental class has further stimulated kids' enthusiasm for scientific exploration and nurtured their innovative mindset and practical skills. It is more fun and vivid for them to acquire knowledge through playing than textbooks," said a teacher at the school.
In Shenchi County of North China's Shanxi Province, volunteers gave sketchbooks and crayons to children and instructed them about drawing skills. The children used brushes to portray their hometown and dream.
During their visit to Aozhai Township in Tongren City of Southwest China's Guizhou Province, volunteers from the National Police University for Criminal Justice joined children to draw pictures of their imaginative ideas and they spent a time filled with creativity and warmth together.
A fun sports event was held on a midsummer afternoon. Volunteers from Baoding University taught students rope-jumping and basketball skills.
Volunteers and children participated in a running match in Jiangxian County of Shanxi Province. "All my efforts are worthwhile when I see the smile on their face. I hope that they will grow up freely and happily," said a volunteer surnamed Li.
