A group of volunteers recently visited 33 Spring Bud girls in Binyang County of Nanning, capital of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and joined them in the two-day activity titled Listening to the Sound of Blossoming Flowers: Spring Bud Growth Camp. The volunteers included donors, employees of caring companies, college students and psychologists.

On the evening of May 16, the volunteers decorated the classroom to create a comfortable, bright and ceremonial space for the girls.

The pleasant changes of the classroom, the friendliness and warmth of volunteers immediately eased nervousness of the girls on the morning of May 17. The girls and the volunteers formed six groups.

During the self-portrait session, the camp host guided participants to imagine and draw something that represents themselves in the current stage, helping them identify personal emotion and expectation.

A girl drew the mountains in Guangxi and wrote a sentence "just as mountains have different shapes, I also have my own rhythm in life." A volunteer portrayed a small figure of half human and half tree, to convey her comfortable and relaxed feeling in Guangxi.

In the afternoon, the girls were guided to have a deep understanding of their relationships with others. Afterward, the girls practiced and performed a drama during which they learned about love and expressed love.

In the evening, the volunteers and the girls sat down in a circle to share stories of themselves, family members, friends and about the world. Their hearts gradually drew closer.

They sang the song Invisible Wings hand in hand. A girl gave a hug to a volunteer surnamed Zeng and praised her beautiful voice. At that moment, Zeng realized that the Spring Bud Project has not only offered the girls material support but also given them a chance to be seen and recognized by others.

On May 18, the volunteers sent roses to the girls and called on them to cherish the youth at a special ceremony. There were 17 girls who would attend this year's national college entrance examination, or gaokao, in early June. They expressed their aspirations and determinations with a loud voice and received warm response from the volunteers.

"I just want to meet the girls, give them a hug and talk with them," wrote a volunteer on the application form before the activity. This was actually the expectation of all the volunteers.

Guangxi is the birthplace of the Spring Bud Project. The first Spring Bud girls' class was set up in the autonomous region 36 years ago. With the development of the times and the changing needs of girls, the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) has rolled out the Spring Bud Companionship initiative to provide girls with multiple assistance in terms of education, companionship and empowerment and pay more attention to girl high school students' academic performance, mental health and social adaptability.

A volunteer said after the activity, "It is not simple assistance but an event that redefines possibility." It's believed that this journey of "meeting the girls" will witness numerous possibilities.
