On the eve of International Day of the Girl Child (October 11), China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) and Hengan Group launched a project to promote girls' adolescent health education. On October 10, two public, adolescent-health classes were held; one in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei Province, and the other in Bishan District, in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
During the classes, experts from the National Health Commission gave lectures about adolescent girls' healthcare, including reproductive and mental health.
Hengan Group donated 3.3 million yuan (US $464,789) in cash and materials to CCTF for the project. Activities promoting girls' adolescent health education will be held in more than 600 primary or high schools in nine provinces (municipalities), including Hubei, Jiangsu and Chongqing. An estimated 120,000 girls will benefit from the activities.
