A three-day summer camp to enhance schoolgirls' sci-tech literacy in the digital era has wrapped up in Beijing.
The summer camp, jointly launched by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) and Chinese internet heavyweight Tencent, was an integral part of the Spring Bud Project — Dream of Future Action·Spring Bud Girls' Sci-Tech and Music Literacy Improvement Project. The project was mainly designed to help inspire the girls' interest in science and technology and cultivate more independent and confident sci-tech girls.
A total of 30 Spring Bud girls from Xingtai of North China's Hebei Province and Qujing of Southwest China's Yunnan Province attended the summer camp.
Speaking in her speech at the closing ceremony, Zhang Yanhong, Secretary-General of the CCTF, hailed the outstanding performance of attendees and stressed the importance of the summer camp.
Zhang said that the launch of the project last July is crucial to helping them master new skills, raising their sci-tech competence, and unleashing their creative potentials.
The CCTF looks forward to strengthening its cooperation with Tencent on charitable programs, she added.
Liu Yong, Vice-President of Tencent, noted that the company has been always committed to promoting the all-around and inclusive development of children and teenagers. He said Tencent wants them to have an equal access to education, take part in creative activities and realize personal dreams, and Tencent has fully leveraged its strengths to further expand public participation in the Spring Bud Project and enrich the charitable project in the midst of its cooperation with the CCTF since 2007.
Ning Duo, Director of the Center for Youth's Sci-tech Learning in Tencent, said that the center has worked with the CCTF to develop a series of courses themed with the cultivation of sci-tech and internet literacy, benefiting over 1,000 Spring Bud girls. About 350 employees from the corporation have built regular contact with teenage recipients of the charitable action in response to their difficulties and questions in daily life.
During the summer camp, trainers from Tencent opened courses on creative sales and two-dimension IP culturally creative products for participants and guided them to learn more about running a business.
Many trainees used what they had learned to produce culturally creative products on the basis of specialty industries at their hometown and become a spokesperson for their birthplace. It was their first time to learn about creative advertisements and business promotion.
Zhuang Junlian, one of organizers of the summer camp, said that the training program has planted the seed of science and technology in the heart of schoolgirls and prepared them to be better adaptable to the job market in the future.
