A charity program entitled "First Classroom: Growth Plan for Smart Parents" was hosted by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) during China's first National Family Education Promotion Week, which lasted from May 9 to 15 this year.
Experts in safety, communication, law, psychology, parenting, education and science were invited to give seven courses to interpret the Family Education Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China and provide parents with suggestions on how to better solve realistic problems in the growth of their children.
The courses focused on family building, family education and family tradition, took into account the special needs of children, women and families, and leveraged its brand strengths to lecture residential communities, families and schools.
Many parents are concerned that their children are too timid and reluctant to communicate with their teachers and classmates. Bai Yaqin, editor-in-chief of the Blue Book of Chinese Families and director-general of Beijing Happy Family Popular Science Education Center, introduced parent-child communication skills and gave her advice to parents on how to engage in effective communication and build a sound parent-child relationship.
The law on family education promotion comes at an opportune time, since a rising number of parents have attached great importance to family education in recent years.
Fan Xinmei, a renowned lawyer and a partner of Beijing Wuchen Law Firm, explained the legal definition of family education, expectations for parents, and the fulfillment of their responsibilities in the course of parents' competence in the law-based era in typical cases. She also interpreted the specifications of parents' responsibilities in family education and the definition of juveniles in accordance with the Civil Code.
Zheng Yingxuan, director-general of the Beijing Heng'ai Family Education Services Center, interpreted newly revised national standards and requirements for the cultivation of talents, as China has introduced a guideline to ease the burdens of excessive homework and off-campus tutoring for students undergoing compulsory education.
Zheng said that participation in labor and sports will make children more self-reliant, self-independent, empathetic and be conducive to their academic performance, adding that family education should focus on the cultivation of sound habits among children in labor, sports and reading.
In addition, He Jinchan, head of Zengcheng Pregnant Women and Parents School affiliated with Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Yang Miao, a senior psychological expert, Tang Xiaoting, a psychological expert from the Institute of Psychology in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Li Zuhao, a researcher from the CAS Institute of High Energy Physics, talked about how to better prevent accidental injuries to children, deepen understanding of physiological and mental growth of newborns, and promote interaction between parents and their adolescent children.
Statistics show that the charity program has built a partnership with over 30 charity organizations, benefited more than 50,000 families, and received a warm response from the public.
