Xinhua News Agency, Paris, October 11th The award ceremony for the 4th UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education was held on October 11th in Paris, France. President Xi Jinping’s wife, Peng Liyuan, UNESCO Special Envoy for Girls and Women’s Education, delivered a congratulatory message to the award ceremony.
Peng Liyuan expressed warm congratulations to the award-winning Costa Rican civil education institution Surabasi and the Education Bureau of the Navarre Autonomous Region of Spain.
Peng Liyuan said that giving fair and quality education to every girl and woman is an important part of the UN's 2030 sustainable development agenda and a common goal of China and UNESCO. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago, girls’ and women’s education has made tremendous development achievements, which has effectively promoted the development and progress of Chinese society. Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, established in partnership with UNESCO, is playing an increasingly important role in promoting and sharing the best experiences of girls and women in education around the world. The moving stories and successful experiences of girls and women education advocates and practitioners will inspire more people to fight for girls and women’s education and to change the lives of girls and women.
Peng Liyuan said that as a special envoy for UNESCO to promote girls and women's education, I would like to work together to support UNESCO's global priorities for gender equality, to help more girls and women realize their dreams of life and create a better future.
The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education was proposed and funded by the Chinese government and is the only UNESCO award in this field. Costa Rica’s educational institution, Surabasi, has long been committed to promoting digital and informational education for girls and women, and the Education Bureau of the Government of Navarre, Spain, has been advocating for gender equality projects for many years.
