The Public Welfare Project of CCTF Helped the Mountainous Areas in Guizhou Shake Off Poverty

In front of a floor-to-ceiling window, some children led by volunteers were engrossed around the educational toys. Outside the window, a couple of Hmong mothers sat on benches, chatting and doing embroidery, and occasionally look at their grandchildren playing inside.

This tender scene under warm sunshine took place in “Happy Home for Children” in Qiaoma community, Ceheng county, Guizhou, which was newly built in November. In the space of dozens of square meters, game tables and bookcases were neatly displayed. On the tables, there were colorful play-dough and building blocks arranges on the piles. On the shelves were all kinds of books and small music instruments, including harmonica, clarinet and tambourine.

“Happy Home for Children” in Qiaoma community, Ceheng county

The Happy Home for Children is free to children and parents, allocating by China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF) and donated by Shenzhen Yuejiali E-Commerce Co., Ltd. as part of the “Yuejiali Beauty” public welfare protect initiated by both parties. The donation ceremony was held on November 14 at the Central School in Pomei town, Ceheng county.

Ceheng belongs to Buyi Miao Autonomous Prefecture in southwest Guizhou, and it is a key county to carry out national poverty alleviation. Precision in response to the national call for poverty alleviation, help poverty alleviation by education, the public welfare projects targeted funding Ceheng 1.24 million Yuan, used to fund 500 poor primary and middle school students and 20 embroidery mothers, as well as donated 2 libraries, and 2 Happy Home for Children.

According to Liu Peng, representative of CCTF, since 2016, more than 4,600 children have been supported by CCTF. Including “Hello Children” love packages with a total value of more than 1.3 million yuan, “Hearty Care Packages for Children” and four “Happy Home for Children”.

“When I have time, I will bring my young daughter to play in the Happy Home for Children. She is very happy when she’s here and never cry”, said Zhu Shangqin, a resident in Qiaoma community.

The Nafu campus of Ceheng Experimental Primary School opened its library on Monday, November 15, with more than 10,000 books. Zhang Bicai, the principal of the school, said that the new library is a great support for more than 1000 students who have been resettled from 100 villages of national poverty areas.

The public welfare project grants a total of 680,000 yuan, and delivered the financial aids to students of 1200 to 1600 yuan per person. After the grants were distributed, CCTF staff and representatives from caring enterprises visited two poor and lonely students living in Pomei town in the mountains and brought them school bags containing stationery and dictionaries.

With a brand new schoolbag, Yan Yan, a sixth-grader at the Central School in Pomei town, said “thank you” sheepishly. Yan Yan, whose father died and whose mother remarried, now lives with her grandparents in their 80s. “I’m going to save my financial aid, save more and buy clothes for my grandparents”, said Yan Yan, whose dream is to become a comedian, “so that my performance can make my grandparents happy”.

Two aided embroidery women participated in the county competition

Tian Jingmei, a 40-year-old Miao embroidery woman received 3,000 yuan in financial support. She was able to work independently when she was 15, but her family was relatively poor, having been farming or working outside the home for years. Recently, the embroidery workshop in the town began to order embroidery products for her, and the monthly income can reach 2,000 yuan per month, which really ease the financial pressure for this mother of five children and help her take care of the children nearby. “I love embroidery and like to embroider clothes for loved ones, which my mother taught me”, Tian Jingmei said.
