“Research Report on Girls and Family Internet Literacy in the New Era” has Published

On the seventh “International Girls Day”, Girls and Family Internet Literacy in a New Era organized by China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF), Tencent Company and CCTV Charity Night was held in Beijing on October 11, hosted by the All-China Women Federation. Leaders of All-Women Federation and representatives of government and companies attended the event, calling for the development of a harmonious and green Internet environment for girls.

“A  Guide to the Safe Growth of Young Netizens (Family Version)” posted online

Hang Xiaowei gave a speech on behalf of All-China Women Federation. She indicated that General Secretary Xi Jinping has always concerned with the healthy growth of children. He asked the education sector, Women Federation and other social sectors to coordinate social resource and support service for family education. She stressed that doing a good job for families and children is an honorable mission given to the Women Federation by the CPC Central Committee, and promoting the healthy growth and equal development for girls is an important task to implement the basic national policy of gender equality. Every one should carry out General Secretary Xi’s important speech on national education conference spirit, fully understand ascension family, children, especially girls, the importance of the Internet literacy urgency, from strengthening the construction of Internet space of the rule of law, strengthening the construction of Internet content, and build schools, families, communities, "trinity" education Internet, etc., to children's healthy growth to build Internet security "umbrella", build "ecological" of Internet culture, make Internet "safe haven" of life.

A joint initiative of “Protect the Buds” was launched

“Research Report on Girls and Family Internet Literacy in the New Era” was published on the seminar. The report analyzed the status and characteristics of online literacy of families and girls through the survey statistics of 6,300 valid questionnaires and in-depth interviews with some parents and girls over a period of six months. The report also analyzed children’s overall Internet application ability is strong, pointed out the children’s main Internet problems, including difficult to achieve a balance between learning and entertainment, privacy protection consciousness to strengthen, Internet negative information discrimination, as well as the Internet capability imbalance caused by uneven regional development, etc.

At the seminar, CCTF and Tencent Company jointly developed the “Protect the Buds, A  Guide to the Safe Growth of Young Netizens (Family Version)”. The guide provided specific suggestion for  improving children and families’ Internet literacy, and emphasizes that children should actively improve their awareness of Internet safety and conduct online etiquette. Parents should lead by example and be good role models for their children of Internet. Learn to listen, communicate actively and give each other space. Strengthen the bottom line education to prevent children from being bullied an to avoid children becoming the disseminators and perpetrators of online hazards.

Interactive section

The experts and scholars also delivered keynote speeches on topics such as the growth and innovation paradigm of teenagers in the Internet age, the construction of an important defense line for girls’ health access to the Internet, the role model parents in the digital age and the collaborative construction of an Internet protection mechanism for girls. In the interactive section, experts discussed the establishment of new parent-child relationship in the digital age and the establishment of a girl-friendly Internet environment from the four aspects of urban-rural differences, international experience, public service, and Internet technology.

A total of 200 people from Beijing attended the seminar, including representatives of families, parents, children, netizens, relevant organizations and main organizers.
