2012/02/06

The Shaanxi Women's Federation and the Shaanxi Bureau of Health co-hosted a training meeting on the province's action in the national campaign to eliminate anemia in infants and children. The campaign was launched by the All-China Women's Federation, the Ministry of Health and the China Children and Teenager's Fund this May in Beijing to improve infant health in poverty-stricken areas and parental knowledge on scientific feeding.

Vice President of the Shaanxi Women's Federation Feng Yi said the action to eliminate anemia was to improve livelihoods. Grassroots women's federations should make use of organizations' advantages to allocate nutrition packages and make use of Women's Home and Children's Home platforms to publicize knowledge of scientific nutrition, Fend added.

She also called for related departments' close cooperation in the action.

The overall goals of the national action are to reduce the anemia rate among infants and children in project areas and improve parenting levels through providing nutrition packages and health education.

A total of 36,708 infants from three counties of Shaanxi Province - Pucheng, Shanyang and Linyou - will benefit from the action.
