AIA, CCTF Rebuild Sichuan Children's Welfare Center
The AIA (American International Assurance) Charitable Fund under the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) has financed the rebuilding of a children's welfare center in Deyang City, southwest China's Sichuan Province. The building was completed on March 20, 2012.
In attendance at the completion ceremony was Secretary-General of the CCTF Chen Xiaoxia, Vice President of Sichuan Women's Federation Huang Li and CEO of AIA's China Branch Cai Qiang.
Chen delivered a speech at the ceremony commending the efforts made by AIA in recent years to help disadvantaged people and participate in charity activities. According to her, more people should be encouraged to work together for the welfare of children and other disadvantaged people.
Cai made a statement in his speech that his company aimed to cooperate further with the CCTF to help needy people and contribute their part to social development.
In addition, attending employees from AIA's China branch prepared gifts, such as books and pencils, for the children who would live at the welfare center. In turn, the children put on performances for the guests.
The welfare center suffered great damage as a result of the Wenchuan earthquake which struck on May 12, 2008. Employees from AIA's China branch worked with the CCTF to set up a special fund to rebuild the center. After two years' of construction work, the welfare center is finally ready to open again.
