China has launched a national charity project to aid the disadvantaged children in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Jointly organized by more than 20 charity organizations including the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF), the China Charity Federation and Red Cross Society of China, the project was officially launched in Beijing on April 9, 2012.

Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce Huang Mengfu, Minister of Civil Affairs Li Liguo and Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs Dou Yupei attended the launch ceremony. Secretary General of CCTF Chen Xiaoxia presented the project's action plan.

The project will make use of national charity resources to promote the development of Liangshan and provide help to local people in poverty-stricken areas.

Merck Sharp & Dohme donated US $ 1 million (6.3 million yuan) to CCTF to provide professional skills training in Liangshan from 2012 to 2014. The program will provide employment training to 1,000 local youths aged from 16 to 21 suffering from AIDS. In addition, the program will also help 600 local HIV-positive youths aged from 14 to 21 by establishing a mutual assistance network.

Guidance for this project will be provided by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, People's Government of Sichuan Province and the All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce.

The CCTF has also launched other charity programs to help needy children in Liangshan with the support of charitable enterprises.
