Elevator manufacturer Otis and its parent company, United Technologies, donated three million yuan (US$ 487,012) on April 23, 2013, to the China Children and Teenager's Fund (CCTF) to aid the Safety Experience Classrooms for Children program in quake-hit Lushan in Ya'an city, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
The Safety Experience Classrooms for Children is a program under the 'Safe and Healthy Growth Project' launched by the CCTF in 2000 to promote safety training and first-aid knowledge among primary and high school students.
Through classes based on simulated situations, the program aims to provide students with measures to save themselves from earthquakes, floods, fires, traffic accidents, public health incidents and social security emergencies.
To date, 70 such classrooms and two centers have been established, benefiting over a million children across the country.
