BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese charity will this year give sweaters to abandoned and disabled children in six African nations - South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

A spokesperson for the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) said Monday 2,010 sweaters weaved by Chinese moms will be donated.

"For the different climates on the African continent, sweaters are necessary to keep out the cold," CCTF spokesperson Hu Wenxin said.

The sweaters will be specially weaved by the volunteers with thin wool, since most of the children do not need thick sweaters.

Over the past five years, more than 550,000 sweaters have been given to abandoned and disabled Chinese children under the charity program.

"Everybody that can weave and that has spare time can show their love by knitting the sweaters," said He Junyi, an official in charge of the charity program.

He said he hopes the orphans and disabled children in Africa will feel the love of Chinese moms.

Peter Oloishura Nkuraiyia, executive director of the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya, told He during a visit to Shanghai in July the generosity of the Chinese mom volunteers shows the love that exists between the Chinese and African peoples.

Nkuraiyia's Shanghai trip unveiled the charity program's first donation to the six African nation's children - 2,010 Shanghai World Expo commemorative T-shirts.
