BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese non-governmental organization launched a campaign Monday that calls on students to save their pocket money to help underprivileged peers.

The charity project, called "Water Drops," was launched by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF). Through handing out saving boxes to young people, the project aims to raise donations for poor youths.

The project will be carried out in more than 10,000 primary and middle schools in cities across China this year, according to organizers.

A ceremony will be held in October to collect the money boxes handed out to students.

The CCTF secretary-general Chen Xiaoxia said donations would be used to improve rural children's nutrition and health.
