An All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) official recently said that relevant departments must guarantee each of the nutritional packages from the ACWF's
Action Against Infant Anemia be delivered safely to children in targeted poverty-stricken rural areas.
On July 17, 2013, Vice President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Zhao Donghua visited three families in Yueliangwan Village in Baiyin City, northwest China's Gansu Province, presenting them with nutritional packages for their babies and gift money.
She instructed the relevant departments to ensure that each nutritional package sent out makes a maximum positive impact on a child's health.
"The Action Against Infant Anemia is an important and significant effort to promote children's healthy growth and must be carefully implemented," she said. "We should also take the opportunity to disseminate early childhood development knowledge and concepts and strengthen early childhood family education guidance services."
Zhao also visited the children's home at the Changtong Community and learned more about its facilities, archives, management and operation systems, and activities.
The Action Against Infant Anemia, co-launched by the Ministry of Health and the ACWF in May 2011, aims to improve the nutrition of infants aged six to 36 months in poverty-stricken rural areas by soliciting donations and providing infants with food supplements.
So far, it has benefited 270,000 infants from 100 poverty-stricken counties in 10 provinces and municipalities. The project provides each child with one daily free nutritional package containing protein- and vitamin-rich food supplements.
The project has proved effective in reducing the prevalence of infant anemia and improving their growth rate.
