A ceremony was jointly held by the China Children and Teenager's Fund (CCTF), the Sony (China) Corporation and the Zhaotong Women's Federation at the Zhaotong Huayu School in Zhaotong, a city of southwest China's Yunnan Province, on March 30, 2015 to celebrate the completion of the first round of the "Safety Experience Classroom" project.
At the ceremony, invited experts lectured attending teachers and students about how to undertake self-rescue and to keep far away from danger in emergency situations. Attendees were also given the opportunity to take part in an earthquake evacuation drill, held in the newly completed classroom under professional guidance.
The Sony (China) Corporation announced that it would make a donation of 1,000,000 yuan (U.S. $159,900) through the CCTF to finance the construction of five safety experience classrooms — along with relevant training sessions — at the Huayu School and the No. 3 Elementary School of Zhaoyang District in Zhaotong, the Xinhua Elementary School in Qiaojia County, and the central elementary schools of Ciyuan and Shuimo townships in Ludian County, when the region was jolted by a devastating earthquake on August 3, 2014.
The charity project aims to provide local students and their teachers with intensive training about how to rescue themselves and others from danger in the event of an earthquake and other emergency situations.
In attendance at the ceremony were Wu Zhenying, deputy secretary-general of the CCTF; Masaru Kato, vice chairperson of the Board and chief representative to China of the Sony Corporation; Fang Min, vice inspector of the Yunnan Women's Federation; Yang Guihong, vice mayor of the Zhaotong People's Government; Shen Qiong, president of the Zhaotong Women's Federation; and local teachers and students.
