Staff members from women's federations and health bureaus across China on July 6-9 gathered to attend a training seminar in connection with an anemia prevention campaign assisted by the China Special Lottery Fund, in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province.
Those attending the event for the Action to Eliminate Anemia among Infants and Children included representatives from 56 counties in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.
The four-day training scheme was co-sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF).
During the event, organizers spoke with attendees about their vocational responsibilities and requirements in the implementation of the charity program. They had also invited experts to lecture on the methods and tips related to children's health education, quality control of nutritional packages, and the further production of nutritional packages both from China and other countries.
Anemia is a condition which affects the level of red blood cells in the blood, and is commonly caused by iron deficiency, which can be introduced into the diet to aid patients.
In the event, participants paid a visit to local contractors of the production of nutritional packages. Meanwhile, attendees also held interactions about the charity project's regulations and relevant professional topics.
Jointly launched by the ACWF, China's Ministry of Health and the CCTF in 2011, the action aims to alleviate and eliminate iron-deficiency anemia among infants and promote infant health by providing nutritional packages to infants between the ages of 6-36 months in poverty-stricken rural areas across the country.
So far, it has benefited some 530,000 infants in 73 impoverished counties in western China.
