Zhu Xisheng, deputy secretary-general of China Children and Teenagers' Foundation (CCTF), alongside medical experts, paid Wang Xue, a girl suffering from vitiligo, a special visit on October 26, 2015, handing out drugs and a condolence payment to help her get rid of vitiligo and returning the smile to her face.
Though the age of 12 is supposed to be a wonderful and innocent time of life, Wang, a 12-year-old girl from Chengde, a city in north China's Hebei Province suffers from the disease. Born into an impoverished family, the vitiligo on her neck kept spreading due to inefficient medical treatment and funds. The situation got so severe that she would wear a scarf during the hot days. Wang used to be a warm and bright child, but soon became a person of few words. However, she was lucky to draw the attention from CCTF's Vitiligo Aid Fund and receive a medical expense exemption of over 10,000 yuan (U.S. $1,570).
There are a great number of patients with vitiligo in China, many of whom delay treatment, resulting in lifelong regret due to the lack of basic understanding of the disease. In future, Farewell to Vitiligo Action of CCTF will spread to Northern China to assist extremely impoverished children cover medical expenses.
It is understood that vitiligo is a common disease, the incidence rate of which is between 1 percent and 3 percent, while 52 percent of patients are aged 0-16 years old.
Since the CCTF launched the Farewell to Vitiligo Action initiative in Beijing on April 10, 2015, it has helped 1,380 teenagers aged 0-18 years old, among which, the improvement rate reached 80 percent and cure rate, 50 percent.
