Steve Wong, member of popular rock band Beyond from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, made a decision to donate his payment from his show held at an industrial zone in Dongguan City in south China's Guangdong Province on December 21 to the China Children and Teenagers' Foundation (CCTF) and two other charity organizations.
The show was organized in celebration of the official release of Gionee's new M5 Plus cell phones.
Wong said that he would donate 200,000RMB (U.S.$30,820) to build children's activity centers and libraries, adding that his late brother Ka Kui Wong, leading member of Beyond, had committed himself to charity work before his accidental death in 1993 and that he hoped to ensure his concerns for the underprivileged were continued.
Beyond are widely considered as the most successful and influential Cantonese music group from Hong Kong and have gained a lot of followers in Mainland China, southeast China's Taiwan Province, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries in southeast Asia, since they formed in 1983.
At the event, representatives from Gionee pledged that the enterprise would match Wong's charitable donation.
