The China Children and Teenagers' Foundation (CCTF) teamed up with sponsors of the Poverty Alleviation Initiative to launch the Spring Bud Free Lunch Project to offer nutritional meals to impoverished school girls at a ceremony held in Beijing February 18.
The project intends to rally support for the improvement of nutrition amongst school girls from poverty-stricken families across the nation and is hosted on WeChat, China's version of Twitter.
According to the CCTF, the program is scheduled to collect public donations from February 18-June 25 and funds will be used to purchase nutritional lunches for girls in target demographics.
So far, it has seen wide popularity, even earning the support of a number of public figures.
More than three million girls dropout across the country have returned to their schools and made a remarkable improvement of their lives under public assistance via the "Spring Bud Free Lunch Project", since it was launched in 1989.
