CCTF Launches Latest Appeal to Help Children in E China Disaster Areas

2016/07/05

A devastating tornado and hailstorm hit Funing County and Sheyang County, both in east China's Jiangsu Province, on June 23. The China Children and Teenagers' Foundation (CCTF) has urgently raised 1,000,000 yuan (U.S.$ 150,000) for accommodating local women and children and helping villagers reconstruct their lives after the disaster.

For now, electrical power, supply networks and roads remain down in most areas of the region. Meanwhile, some students suffered injuries when local schools collapsed. Most of these children had no supervision since their parents are migrant workers based in faraway cities, officials reported.

Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation urged local women's federations to give full play to their advantages and offer support. CCTF officials also promised to follow rescue efforts and attend to children's livings needs in affected areas, as well as carry out further aid operations.

Moreover, the CCTF encouraged the public to donate for local disaster areas. Different donation channels have been established in post offices, banks, via the social networking app WeChat, and via the online cash transfer method Alipay.

Usage of Donation

The CCTF will use proceeds to benefit local children via special HELLO Kids packages, each worth 300 yuan (U.S.$ 45), which include 18 different daily necessities and post-disaster epidemic prevention supplies.

Besides, the donations are expected to provide study subsidies for every affected college student, high school student and vocational school student, as well as middle school students and primary school students, with the standard of 6,000 yuan (U.S.$ 899), 4,000 yuan (U.S.$ 599) and 2,000 yuan (U.S.$ 299) respectively.
