CCTF Children Amblyopia Special Fund

The Children Amblyopia Special Fund is one example of the success of Safe & Healthy Growth

Project. Around two million children suffer from Amblyopia. Although curable if treated at any early age, many parents can't afford treatment, which leaves the child blind in the infected eye. CCTF's program provides high quality care with a no charge treatment policy. This allows thousands of children the ability to grow up healthily and experience a world previously unseen.

Achievement in 2007-2008

l         Two hundred and twenty-eight poor children in Jiangxi, Hunan and other regions who suffered from Amblyopia were provided with free treatment in Beijing. Over 2,000 children from nineteen provinces have received the free treatments. CCTF's medical team has, moreover,  selected 12,814 children in poor regions to receive future treatment at no cost.

On Jun 16 2008, CCTF together with Hunan-TV held a charity party with Jackie Chan, Yifei Liu, and many other famous stars, who attended the party and gave performances. Jackie Chen is the goodwill ambassador of this project and is engaged in it with his whole soul. Jackie Chen had already donated 400 million RMB for children.

Now children from Datong, Shanxi and from Huayuan and Zhongfang, Hunan are in  Beijing and receiving free treatments. We are planning to invite these children to watch the Olympic Games together with Jackie Chan and Yifei Liu.

An Amblyopic Child's Story

This story was told by an excited mother, whose child, Li Donghong, was helped by our program. This family comes from a poor county, where both of his parents are farmers.

When Li Donghong was only one year old, his family noticed that he could not see things clearly, even when they were very close; once, his bad vision caused him to fall and his face was bruised. Because his family is very poor, the parents could not take him to the hospital for an eye examination. After his fall, however, Donghong鈥檚 family decided to save money to treat him. Although the family members worked on the family farm, they could hardly afford to save enough money.

Before his operation, Donghong felt inferior to his peers and was very shy, when talking to other people. Although his disease became worse day after day, the family had no money to address the problem.

Then, the family received notification that their child would get a free operation; Donghong was so happy that he jumped and cried. He felt that he found his hope for life again.

Now, Donghong can see things much more clearly. His whole family is grateful to the support provided by CCTF, and Donghong has learned the value of charity and caring for others.
