KPMG - CCTF Community Centre in Cifeng Township, Sichuan Province, PRC
Building A Rural Green Community Centre Through International Collaboration
KPMG China, in partnership with China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF) and Chengdu Women's Federation, have built an exemplar green community centre in Cifeng Township, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province, as part of efforts to renovate the earthquake-devastated area and promote the development of the local communities. The "PMG-CCTF Community Centre" is the world's first long-span reconstituted bamboo frame structure and built with leading quake-resistant technology.

The Project Architect, Integer China, has made full use of locally sourced materials in building a people-oriented, energy-saving, and environmentally sustainable village. The project's main construction materials have come from renewable resources - such as reconstituted bamboo, straw bale walls and timber windows. The project is also encouraging green energy by using such designs as solar light tubes, LED lamp and biogas. The design concept, unveiled at the 2010 Beijing Intelligent Green & Energy Efficient Buildings Convention, has been widely recognised both nationally and internationally, having also been awarded the "2009 National Human Settlement Best Practice Gold Medal". The"PMG-CCTF Community Centre" project is being featured as one of the best-practice cases for sustainable living/environmental protection at the ZED pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

The project has received manpower, resources and financial support from 30 domestic and international enterprises, research institutions and government agencies.

The 450-square meter Community Centre was opened on 17 May 2010, and will be used for local children's extracurricular activities and villagers' vocational training. The project has advanced the rural community development by means of corporate sponsorship, public participation and public-private partnership, and will serve as a paragon for improving educational, cultural and recreational facilities in rural communities.
