CCTF Programmes in Earthquake Stricken Areas

CCTF has raised nearly 200 million in cash and equipment for earthquake relief for projects to rebuild community children centers and schools, re-house orphans with trained carers, relocate the worst cases to new schools and homes, provide school libraries and above all to get education and skills training underway again to give the best chance to youngsters already disadvantaged before the quake hit. These projects have beenaugmented by provision of psychological and trauma counseling for orphans and children disabled by the disaster and their families. The severe lack of rural teachers with adequate training is also being addressed with teacher training while skill to provide auxiliary teachers to bring schooling.

All of these projects and programmes are currently underway and a selection is highlighted below with more information. Funding to sustain these and develop further projects is being sought from both local and international donors.

Current Programmes Underway
Spring Bud —Rebuilding Schools
In the aftermath of the May 12 earthquake, CCTF redirected the resources of this programme to rebuild schools in the disaster areas. The reconstruction of 32 quakeproof Spring Bud schools in Deyang, Mianyang and Guangyuan, Sichuan Province will be finished by the end of September 2009.

Indigent Families Relief
After the earthquake, many families lost their homes and livelihoods and saw a general deterioration of their living conditions. Some families are indigent because of the earthquake; the level of subsistence for those who were already in dire circumstances has further deteriorated. CCTF is working to provide temporary support to these families.
ith the donation of 4,000 RMB (per child), CCTF has funded financial support for over 1,300 injured children from Deyang, Mianyang, Pengzhou, Guangyuan, Dujiangyan and Aba in Sichuan Province. The names of the beneficiary children are publicized on the No.1 web portal of China for inspect. Children’s Community Centre
CCTF now is cooperating with KPMG and Integer to build a sustainable, ecologically innovative, pleasant, healthy, vibrant and connecting community centre in Cifeng township, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province. The building of the community centre will be a bamboo and sustainable timber structure, which is environment friendly and safe. Integer provides pro bono services of programme management and design. On completion, the community centre will become a place of education, entertainment, professional training, sustainability exhibition and local construction, visitor centre, and rural stay experience.

Relocating Students
In the earthquake, many children became orphaned or their parents became disabled and unable to look after them. In order to give them a stable growing environment and proper education during turbulent times CCTF has relocated about 1000 students to schools in Yunnan, Shandong, Beijing, and Hebei. Children relocated in Beijing are all Qiang minority.

Shuagliu Ankang Children Centre

CCTF has relocated around 1,000 students out from the disaster area in Sichuan. But for many the ideal is to rebuild their lives in their original domicile and as a result CCTF has initiated a programme to move a number of children back to their hometown in Sichuan as infrastructure permits. CCTF has therefore cooperated with Rizhao Steel Group to construct a children’s centre in Shuangliu, Sichuan, which includes a living area that to accommodate 500 children, a primary school and a middle school. The children centre should be finished before the end of May 2009.

Note:Ankang means ‘healthy and secure’ in Chinese.

School Library Program
CCTF focuses not only the material livelihood of the earthquake- effected children but also their spiritual and emotional state. In order to enrich children’s spare time and help them to come out of th;
  shadow of the earthquake, CCTF is implementing a school library programme. In the school library, children can not only read books, but also receive professional counseling treatment provided by CCTF funded psychologists. Psychological Assistance Training for Teachers from Sichuan Province.
In the training centre of CCTF in Hebei Province, more than 100 teachers from Sichuan province have received psychological assistance training that is provided by Spiritual Ocean International Group.
