--Heinz Donates Accumulative Total RMB 3.2 Million to Assist Earthquake Relief in Sichuan China
Recently, Heinz announced to donate additional 15 thousand cases Heinz jarred baby food valued at RMB 1million to assist earthquake relief in Sichuan through China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (hereafter CCTF) which is affiliated to the All-China Women’s Federation. Until today, Heinz has donated accumulative total RMB 3.2 Million to Sichuan quake-hit area.
It is reported that, since the 5.12 earthquake happened, Heinz has responded quickly and donated Heinz baby cereal food to children in quake-hit area. Besides, Heinz sent baby food to children in hospital in disaster area under the direction of local disaster relief command center. By May. 15, Heinz has donated RMB2.2 million to relief efforts through various channels. Recently, Heinz has been aware that the quake-hit area is still in great need of baby food. Considering the lack of water and other actual difficulties in disaster area, Heinz China immediately decided to donate RMB 1 million ready-to-eat jarred baby foods like fruit juice, vegetable paste etc. for babies less than 3 years old in Sichuan disaster area through CCTF.
Till May, 22, Heinz has donated accumulative total RMB 3.2 Million to Sichuan quake-hit area, including Heinz cereal food valued at RMB 200 thousand donating through Red Cross Association Guangdong Branch for Sichuan earthquake area, and Heinz Foundation has confirmed to donate USD100 thousand to the relief efforts in quake-hit regions through International Red Cross Association. Hector Yeh, Long Fong board chairman, on behalf of Long Fong Food Co. Ltd, one of Heinz affiliates in China has pledged a significant donation at RMB1.1million in cash and Long Fong frozen food valued at RMB 200 thousand to disaster area.
“Unite as one to combat quake”. Facing the natural disaster, people in the disaster area suffer huge economy loss and mental torture. Heinz has always been with people in the quake-hit area, responding quickly to aid those in need and fulfilling the corporate social responsibility.
During the past years, Heinz has actively involved in various types of charity events. In Jan. 2008, Heinz joined the charity event named The Love Shine on the Way Home, which sponsors the poor university students from rural areas studying in Beijing the traveling fee to home for the Chinese Lunar New Year. The event was organized by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation & Jinghua News. In 2007 and 2006, Heinz UFE donated baby food to welfare centers in Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Chongqing,Guiyang, Nanchang etc. Beside, Heinz Foundation in the US also attached great importance to the health of the children in western China and launched the1 million USD micronutrient project with MOH of PRC to improve the nutrition of the children in western China.
